In the story " Civil Peace" by Chinua Achebe, the conflict that sets the scene is the aftermath of the Nigerian Civil War, also known as the Biafran War, which took place from 1967 to 1970. The war was a result of ethnic tensions and political struggles in Nigeria, particularly between the Igbo people, who primarily inhabited the southeastern region, and the Nigerian government. "Civil Peace.. One response is Achebe's short story "Civil Peace," set in the first days of the uneasy peace settlement of 1970. Its title is deeply ironic. At first reading it signifies a state of normality, but "civil" is normally applied to war: as the main protagonists discover, for all the hopeful signs, the conflict is not yet over for them.
